Best Paper Awards Announced (August 31, 2011) A paper joingly authored by CIST Ph.D. student Janyl Jumadinova and CS department faculty Dr. Prithviraj Dasgupta won the best paper award at the 13th International Conference on Electronic Commerce (ICEC). The paper was titled "A Multi-Agent Prediction Market based on Partially Observable Stochastic Games". Click here to see the announcement on the conference website. A paper jointly authored by Aruna Weerakoon (a CS graduate student), Dr. Parvathi Chundi and Dr. Mahadevan Subramaniam (both CS department faculty) was awarded the best student lead paper in the KDD 2011 workshop on modeling and simulation. Aruna has received a nice plaque and also cash award of $500.00. Hearty congratulations to Aruna! Aruna Weerakoon joined our Ph.D. program this Fall. He is working with Dr. Subu on the modeling and simulation project with Engineering. He was a CS master's thesis student of Prof. Parvathi Chundi and wrote his thesis on temporal data mining. Outstanding Graduate Student Awards Nomination (Deadline: October 21, 2011) Every year, the Graduate Scholarship/Fellowship committee recommends to the Dean for Graduate Studies two outstanding graduate students. Nominations are solicited from faculty, students, and administrators and are based on students who are outstanding in their academic performance and professional roles. The nomination form is available online at here . Graduate Thesis Scholarship (Deadline: October 28, 2011) Scholarships for $1,000.00 will be awarded during the spring semester. Eligibility is limited to graduate students who have completed 15 hours in a Master's-level thesis program administered at UNO. The application is available online at here . Fall Reception for New Graduate Students A fall reception for new IS&T graudate students were held at the Elmwood Park Pavillion, on August 17, 2011.
